Praefatio in Leges Ciceronis. (TP) 69                                                         Praef. Leg.        37 (§)
Lyon: G. Huyon, 19 Oct. 1514  ||  Matheeussen 1984: 2-15

69   Title as it appears in the title page of the edition printed by T. Martens (Louvain, 1519). Original title of the editio princeps (1514): In Leges Ciceronis una [i.e. praelectio]. In the 1519 edition, Vives rephrased some sentences and added a complete new section on Cicero’s life. This section begins with the words «Iam uero illam partem uideo meae praefationi…», which demonstrates Vives’s will to call this work praefatio, not praelectio. As from 1519, Praef. Leg. has Aedes ep. as its introductory epistle. See note 97.

76  There is no colophon. 31 March 1514 is the date found at the end of the letter. See González 1992: 103. Tournoy (2002: 8) states that Ep. Fort. should be dated before 31 Mar. 1515.
